Ethereum: HD / Deterministic Wallets and public key

Ethereum HD/Determinist wallets: A guide for taking over your unfounded transactions

When it comes to managing your Ethereum funds, two popular approaches are HD (hardware directed) and deterministic wallets. Both methods allow you to store your private keys safely and efficiently, but they differ in their approach to take over your wallet balance.

HD wallets

HD wallets use a combination of public and private keys to manage your ethereum assets. The process involves creating a phrase of seed in your HD wallet, which is used to generate a new wallet with the same funds. This assures you that you always have access to your assets, regardless of the changes to your private key.

To take over your wallet balance using a HD wallet:

  • Generate a new sentence of seeds: Export the HD wallet and generate a new sentence of seeds.

  • Use the seed phrase to create a new wallet: import the new phrase of seeds in another app or software in Ethereum wallet.

  • Load the funds: Transfer the assets from the original to the new wallet.

Deterministic wallets

The deterministic wallets, on the other hand, store only the deterministic version of your private key and the associated public key. The deterministic key is a fixed string that never changes, regardless of the changes made to your private key. This approach provides excellent security because it ensures that your wallet balance remains unchanged even if your private key is compromised.

To take over your wallet balance using a deterministic wallet:

  • Import the private key: Use a deterministic app -applied app or software to import your private key.

  • Calculate the public key: After you have the private key, use it to calculate the associated public key.

  • Upload the funds: transfer the assets in the initial wallet (which has no control over them) in the new wallet with the calculated public key.

Comparison and conclusion

HD wallets provide a more flexible approach to managing your ETHREUM assets, as you can always create a new wallet if needed. However, they require more maintenance efforts to handle more wallets and seed phrases. Determinist wallets, on the other hand, offer excellent security, but are more rigid in their approach.

If you are using an HD wallet with public key generation, you should not interrogate non -removal transactions (UXT) to take over your wallet balance. The private key is sufficient to verify the validity of the transactions and assets associated with it. However, if you use a deterministic wallet, you will need to import the private key and calculate the public key to access your funds.

Finally, the choice between HD wallets and deterministic wallets depends on your personal preferences and needs. If security and flexibility are essential, an HD wallet could be the better option. However, if the simplicity and ease of use are more important, a deterministic wallet could be the way to follow.
